How to Scale a SaaS using Twitter Organic
Here’s the framework for what I’ll be going over in this section:
Here’s a video breakdown:
Identify a Big Problem
The biggest mistake new Founders make is not understanding the markets biggest pain points and their WANTS & NEEDS.
So first understand where there is a problem so you can create a solution.
2 ways to do this:
1) Ask people directly and do market research directly
2) Information from previous experiences in business, so you know where the problems are already.
And if you’re using Twitter Organic as your main channel for organic marketing…
You HAVE to make sure it’s a problem that other people on Twitter have.
Otherwise…
You’ll waste time promoting something that no one needs.
Create MVP Solution
Once you deeply understand the market’s wants and needs...
You can create an MVP solution to the problem.
(Disclaimer: I don’t have experience with building an MVP for a SaaS Startup)
But I do know that you’ll need to work with a developer to create an MVP
Or use no-code tools to build the solution.
Also, understand that your first solution will be nothing compared to the final product.
The point is you want something you can market to people so you can "build it in public"
That way, when the final product comes out...
You'll already have an audience that will buy it from you.
Build your Audience
This is the second most important step (behind having a valuable product)
Your organic content strategy will make or break your launch.
But if you build your audience the RIGHT way (leading with value and volume)...
Then you'll have thousands of quality followers that will help you grow your company.
Here's a content strategy that works:
4 tweets/day 2 threads/week 2 mindmaps/week 2 Auto DMs/week 5 Sales Tweets/week Engage with all comments Ask a daily question
Seems like a lot, but this can all be done in 3-4 hours of work.
Plus, you'll have months' worth of content that you can repost on evergreen.
Also, you'll need to optimize your profile.
Here's how that's done:
Clear Headshot Value Proposition in your Bio Link to SaaS sign up page
It's simple.
But make sure it looks professional.
Make sure you stay consistent with this.
The compound effect will start to take place around month 2.
Use Twitter for Beta Test
Build your audience on Twitter and use them to help you test your product.
In every Auto DM guide you send...
Insert your link to the free trial/Beta Test
This way you’ll get hundreds of new leads per week who can test your product.
Build trust with your audience by giving away TONS of free value in advance.
That's why I'll always advocate for leading with value.
Why?
Because it's the best way to build trust with your audience.
And this applies to real life too...
People love being around other people who add value to their life.
As you build your audience in public...
Make sure to let your audience know about the updates and improvements you're making to your SaaS.
Build an Email List + Community
This plays a HUGE factor into the success of your SaaS.
Why?
Because you can't rely on only Twitter.
You need your own sources of traffic.
Your own platforms where you can build and nurture your audience.
You can give them exclusive access to certain features
And you can incentivize them to purchase your product with a discount for being in the free group.
Here's how to build your email list:
- Have a newsletter section somewhere on your website
- Create simple opt-in pages for your lead magnet giveaways
- Promote your newsletter underneath tweets/threads
This is the exact strategy I've used to add 1,000+ people to my email list in the past 30 days.
And one more suggestion...
Build out a simple welcome flow for your email newsletter.
This way you can warm people up about what your brand does for 5 days.
It's your time to:
Show people your story Tell them about your product Give them more free value Sell your product to them at the end
For community building...
You can use Telegram, Discord, Slack, or any other channel of your choice.
Discord might be your best option for community building because you can interact better with your audience.
Whatever platform you choose...
Promote it in your newsletter, website, and Twitter account.
And again...
Make sure to add TONS of value to the group.
This means talking about EVERY feature of your SaaS.
Make sure they understand the full capabilities of the product you have.
Automated Outreach
Set up an automated message that welcomes every new follower.
Tell them who you are, what you do, and give them some insights into what you’re building.
Then ask an open-ended question at the end to elicit a response.
This will help you get into more conversations with potential prospects.
Also, you can hire an appointment setter or use software to send outbound messages.
Personally, I like the idea of having an appointment setter.
This way the conversations I'm getting in will feel more casual.
But regardless...
Start more conversations and you will get more leads.
More volume = More leads
Keep Improving the Product
You’ll have been building your SaaS in public for 3-6 months at this point.
Your audience will have tens of thousands of people in it.
Your newsletter will have thousands on it.
And your community will have thousands.
Now you need to keep improving the product and making it the best possible tool for people to use.
Because that is THE most important piece of the puzzle.
The product.
Nothing else matters if you have a product that doesn't solve a problem people have.
No matter how dialed in your marketing is...
If your product isn't useful, you won't get sales.
And the same concept applies to all other niches.
Coaches, Agency Owners, Info Products, or anything else.
Focus on product first and everything else will fall into place.
That’s a wrap for this section!
Watch the video and save this section to your Notion.
And most importantly…
Take action on this!
